As an Indian, coming from a country of 29 states, 22 national languages, 111 dance forms and infinite cuisines I thought, I knew everything about Diversity, until I moved to Los Angeles.Los Angeles too, proudly flaunts its rich strong and diverse ethnic culture. I’ve never had the need to go to an Indian restaurant, for there is so much more around the world, food to explore, experiment and to discover. Over time I learnt the minute difference between Cantonese and Koreans. Everyone, independent yet together. Walking on the streets, I see different shades of beautiful skin and hair. At work, a team with different accents. The pot lucks introduced me to spices and flavors my tongue never experienced. My Airbnb hosts are best of my friends opening houses for each other and breaking bread every thanksgiving has now become our tradition.
Such differences, but still the same need of friendship, love, peace and empathy. As the citizens of the world, teaching our children the importance and essence of diversity would be the only way we will step into a safer future.
